Go Figure

Ok, this year I have actually been keeping up on my grading. :) I have a nice little sheet of paper (an excel spreadsheet) that is a hard copy of all of my grades. Unfortunately, I have not been "posting them" regularly. That was my plan for tonight... it didn't happen. I left my folder with the scores in it at the school, I missed my dentist apt. and have a sore tooth, I took a ridiculously long shower to help sooth my achy muscles, and I napped. Not a productive day by any means.

So, the alarm is set for 4 am, I will whip up a breakfast treat for our 7 am meeting and then head to the school to finish transferring the grades. Hopefully this plan works out better than the last one.

Purpose

"To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting." -Edmund Burke

I am constantly amazed by people that don't "get" anything out of reading. Reflection should be a part of life. We should reflect on our feelings, our thoughts, our actions and dreams; all aspects of our lives should be reflective. At least, that is the idea I tried to sell my juniors today.

Funny thing... no one was buying.

Buffy in the Classroom

I love my job, especially on days like today. A lovely, fabulous, brilliant colleague came up with a great introduction activity for teaching The Crucible in the junior English classes. We are watching and analyzing Gingerbread, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode from season 3, which deals with hysteria, fear, illusions, and the idea of a "witch hunt". How exciting that my fabulous hobby is now being applied in the classroom to snare the attention of my little darlings (aka. students, deviants, miscreants). :) Happy day!

Early One Morning...

Starting out in the morning we were cold, wet, and excited. Yep, that is me on the left in the super sexy shorts and tights. My first mile took me 19 minutes, let's hear it for the cold joints. I freaked out and called Anna to let her know she needed to double the expected time per mile. :) After meeting up with Anna, Tammy, & Spence at mile 4, I started on a nice clipped pace and was thrilled that it looked like my goal of finishing in 6 1/2 hours or less would be met. It was fun and I think I will be competing again.

Stay tuned for more on the run...

Morning Jitters

It is 6:45 am and I am getting ready to leave for my marathon. Yikes. I am thrilled, nervous, nauseous, and ready to be ten miles in already. :) Tammy, Anna, & the boys are going to meet me a couple times and then Steen and Spence will be there at the finish. 26.2 miles... here goes nothing.
